In this article, we aim to demonstrate Ricoeur’s reception of Plato’s philosophy on the ontological level. To do this, we will trace the steps of Ricoeur’s reflection that culminates in a speculative discourse, which explores the possibility of rehabilitating a metaphysics grounded in the concept of alterity. In the first section, we will detail Ricoeur’s reading of Plato's Sophist, accompanied by interpretations from specialists in Platonic philosophy. Subsequently, we will delve into the final study of Oneself as Another, specifically focusing on the tripod of passivity, to account for Ricoeur's appropriation of alterity within the framework of the hermeneutics of the self.
